Reception: Early Years Foundation Stage Learning

At St James Hatcham, we want children to be happy, confident and independent, with a love for learning fostered within a Christian environment. We believe in providing all children with a safe and stimulating environment that builds on individual's strengths, motivations, talents and interests. We have one Reception class; 30 children each year from our local community who, with their parents and carers, are welcomed into our small school family. We respect that parents are the child's first and future educators and so we work hard to build positive relationships with all our families and know that this is the key to good progress as we lay the foundations for life long learning.

By the end of their Reception year, our intent is to ensure that all children make good or better progress from their starting points and ensure they are equipped with the characteristics of effective learning, skills that improve their independence and, broad knowledge to enable them to participate fully in our bespoke curriculum and build on their inert sense of justice.

... activities provided are well-crafted, creative in design and rich in opportunities for developing language and communication, early writing and understanding of number.
